Juneau, AK Trip

I recently jumped at the opportunity to take a quick weekend trip to Alaska with my friend Devin. It had been a while for me since I’d flown anywhere other than down to Los Angeles, CA to see family and old friends. I also couldn’t say no to the chance at getting some great photos as well as traveling somewhere new with little to no plan. I love not having a plan or schedule and flying by the seat of my pants. Here is a small gallery of the images I captured while on our trip. Also all the images were captured using my Sony A6000 with the kit lens and a 35mm f1.8 Sony lens.  Great camera for travel, just in case some of you were looking for a travel worthy small mirrorless camera!

First leg of our trip was a red eye flight from PDX to Anchorage. Not too many people inhabit PDX in the wee hours of the night. Was great for wandering around and snapping sweet shots like this one.

It was also a good time for stopping for a pre flight Bloody Mary inside the airport.

Thanks to Devin I got to board the plane extra early and jump into the pilot's seat as well as see a cockpit for the first time ever!!

Anchorage airport was taxidermy central and this giant moose was one of the stars.

When we eventually made it to the Anchorage airport we first took a picture with the local wildlife before figuring out what we were going to do with the rest of our night. Eventually we made our way to Denny's and pigged out on breakfast before getting back to the airport.

Phone time on the $5 massage chairs with the weird thing that seems to poke you in the butt was a must.

Not being able to comfortably nap at the airport while we waited for our connection to Juneau was frustrating.

A clear sign of frustration caused by lack of airport napping.

Once we were finally boarded and on our way to Juneau we got to see the magnificent sunrise over Anchorage.

Portrait of a mother with her daughter sleeping on her lap during most of the flight. The image of them was too amazing to not snap a shot of.

Overhead views of the state of Alaska are indescribable. The size of the mountains and glaciers. The depth of the snow and ice.

I had never in my life experienced mountains as far as the eye could see. It was pretty amazing and a powerful experience for sure. Made me deeply think about “civilization” and all the beauty of this planet that we’ve destroyed.

First stop in Juneau was Mendenhall Glacier Park. It was a 10 minute drive from the airport. The cab driver told us to be careful because food had been scarce this winter and bears were definitely out on the look out for things to eat.

We hiked a short trail that took us as close as we could get to the glacier and the waterfall right near it. Two brown bears spooked us on the trail during our hike in. We later saw a mom with her 3 cubs before leaving the park.

Artist I ran into at one of the only open shops on the Sunday in the town of Juneau. We chatted about art for a bit and he let me take a few pics of him in the process of working. This particular piece is going to be a miniature totem pole.
